Cameron Lo

I’ve been wanting to start Cameron on swim classes for a while because supposedly babies 8 months and younger instinctively know to hold their breath underwater. But at our 6-month well visit, our pediatrician, noting Cameron’s dry skin, said “No rush” a couple times, so I figured I’d introduce Cameron to swimming pools on our Kauai trip, then enroll him in swim classes if he didn’t mind the water. Well, he liked it just fine, so today was his first day of swim class. Unfortunately Cameron developed a pretty strong sense of stranger anxiety recently, so he started crying when he saw all these new faces around him. He would calm down cuddled in my arms, but as soon as the instructor took him, he’d cry again. Plus he didn’t like being submerged in the water, which I made him do several times, so that prompted more crying. Well, hopefully he’ll take to swimming after a few more classes. Darren certainly loves swimming—but he too protested with many tears once in a while—so I have hope yet!
