Why is this girl all over me?

“OK. I am two and I am cute. But I don’t expect this kind of attention – at least not yet.”

P.S. Darren will be jealous.

Hiking in Kapalua!

The kids have become pretty decent hikers. Even though Cameron is very young, he can keep up with or even do better than his older brother.

This picture was taken at the end of the Kapalua Coastal Trail. It is a nice, short trail with beautiful views of the coastline.

It still blows!

Last time we went to the blowhole, it was low tide. So today we headed out there during high tide. I must say that it was still less than impressive and I am sure that the kids agree.

This time we took a shorter but more difficult route to the blowhole. Cameron had a little difficulty negotiating the terrain and had to be held during difficult portions of the route. Michelle and I shared the responsibility of carrying him while walking down slippery slope and stepping through rocky paths. It was a little nerve-racking knowing that a fall would mean disaster for both the adult and especially for the little boy. Luckily we returned without any incident and the kids got to enjoy the dramatic coastline and interesting rock formations one more time.

Fun (not fine) Dining

Some people go to fancy restaurants to taste great food. Some people go to fancy restaurants to drink good wine. Some people go to fancy restaurants to play with toys.

We went to arguably the best restaurant on Maui in terms of food and view, Merriman’s Kapalua, for dinner. The boys could care less about the awesome seared scallops on corn puree with bacon. They got excited instead by some random toys provided by the restaurant. I wish they knew how special it was to be able to dine at a nice restaurant.

Shave ice is cold!

It’s tough not to yield to the sweet and cold allure of shave ice in Hawaii. I can’t believe that we didn’t stop at a shave ice shop until our fifth day. It was the first time Cameron had shave ice. Obviously he found it cold and he made some funny facial expressions.

That blows!

Our first adventure on the island of Maui was to check out the Nakalele blowhole. We parked the car at the 38th mile marker on 30 and hiked toward the blowhole. The path was pretty easy at the beginning but got more treacherous. I suggested that we turned back but Michelle decided to carry Cameron through the tough parts. However, I must give Cameron lots of credit as he hiked as much as (and probably more than) Darren.

This is actually a picture of Darren running away from us. But you can be assured that Cameron wasn’t far behind.

The coastal scenery was gorgeous and the rock formations along the way were very interesting. Unfortunately the blowhole itself was not very impressive due to low tides. But the boys did get wet from staying downwind from it. And yes, sea water is salty.
