Happy 1st Birthday!

Cameron turned one today. We threw a big celebration for him at the American Club at Tai Tam. Michelle had the foresight of getting a big inflatable slide inside the ballroom. It turned out to be a huge hit – kids and adults were flying down the slide continuously.

Even Cameron got to participate in Michelle’s arms:

The only time that the slide was quiet when everyone sat down for lunch. The club prepared an array of food from mini-burgers to Peking Duck wraps to peppered seared tuna.

However, the calmness didn’t last long as the kids (and adults) were eager to get back to the action. The action was only temporarily suspended again for the cakes. We actually got three different kinds of cakes for Cameron. He couldn’t eat the cakes yet but we mashed up some fruits that were on top of the cake for him.

Thanks everyone for coming and making this a fun event!!!

Horsing around

In Hong Kong many people join private clubs to get exclusive access to sports and dining facilities. The most desired is a membership to the Jockey Club because it allows members to attend and bet on horse races. We are very lucky to have Grandma as a member. The food plaza there is great for kids – tons of tasty choices (Chinese, Italian, Japanese, Indian…), plenty of high chairs, fairly noisy to help drown out the kids’ screams.

Cameron is still on mushy baby food and can’t enjoy the cuisines from around the world. However, he is still having fun at the food plaza playing “take and give (or not)” with me.

More crawling

Cameron’s still crawling on his tummy most of the time, but that works very well for crawling through tunnels! I love having Cameron crawl through the tunnel they have at Gymboree because it’s so colorful! Unfortunately I didn’t have the camera with me when Cameron crawled through it the first time. By the time I got the camera, Darren found us and of course he had to distract and disrupt Cameron, not to mention the “glamor shot” effect of the video, which is from Darren playing with our camera all the time with his greasy fingers!

“Speedo” Lo

This is Cameron’s second time swimming with Dad. The first time I couldn’t find the camera before I left home and missed their class, only catching them in the shower. But this time I was well-prepared and captured almost the whole class on film! Hence the sped-up video here—there’s a lot of swimming and water fun by “Speedo” Cameron Lo!

Self-feeding!

Leave it to Cameron to start self-feeding “early”—well, earlier than big brother who by my record didn’t start until he was 13 months old. But Cameron’s the exact opposite of Darren—Cameron puts practically everything into his mouth whereas Darren almost never (with a few scary exceptions on his first Hawaii trip while on the beach, putting sand, pebbles, and twigs in his mouth! Our then nanny was completely spacing out, but fortunately I caught Darren in the act and extracted all foreign, inedible objects from his mouth.) Not only is this self-feeding milestone exciting in and of itself, but, while not caught on this video, Cameron also uses his left hand to self-feed—his left thumb was diagnosed at 6 months to be a congenital clasped thumb, but with the help of a thumb splint which he wears when he sleeps, his left thumb is almost as good as his normal right thumb now!

Gotta catch that train!

Cameron has been crawling faster and better! He’s still not off his stomach yet, but he gets to the toys and places he wants to nevertheless! One of his favorite toys is this train that moves and sings. Darren used to love this train too—it’s a hand-me-down from our ringbearer Christopher—this train is well-loved! Now that I think about it, this was Darren’s first train and now he has so many I can’t even keep count. Anyway, this train is what I use to entice Cameron to practice his crawling. One of these days he’ll be faster than the train!

Sexy Back

Cameron loves music. However, I didn’t know that he loves dancing too. I see another Justin Timberlake in the making (I wish!).

Clapping!

Cameron started clapping in the last week or two.  I actually have to credit the nannies–they started teaching him how to clap and he picked it up pretty quickly! Now he’ll actually clap on demand–whenever we say “好嘢!” which is like “good job!”/”hooray!” in Cantonese, he’ll clap!

I’m learning to crawl!

Cameron has been learning to crawl for a while now. It’s not particularly graceful right now, but he gets the job done and the whole family is cheering him on (usually—somehow we managed to stay quiet for this particular clip) as well as documenting! 😉

Blowing raspberries

Cameron loves blowing raspberries. He blew his first raspberry on July 16th–3 days before his 7-month birthday! Yes I try to document his milestones on Bobohelper, like he first played with his feet on June 21st–2 days after he turned 6 months…OK I’ll come clean–I really only tracked 2 milestones for Cameron so far–it’s harder with #2! 🙁 But I swear I love him just as much! 🙂
